THE MAINFRAME INTERVIEWS, FOLOW 2: GSE

IBM Mainframe: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Should mainframe customers modernise their applications or replace them with standard software?

Dr. Michael Weiß explains why this is a management decision.

In the second episode of the iX interviews about the mainframe, we talk to Dr. Michael Weiß. Since 1992, he has been an active member of the user association “Guide Share Europe” (GSE), in which more than 1,300 companies using IBM systems and products are organised throughout Europe. The GSE represents customer interests vis-à-vis the manufacturer and promotes the exchange of information, both on cross-platform strategies and on mainframe topics.

In 2021, Dr. Michael Weiß took on the role of GSE Region Manager Germany for the second time. “The GSE stands for the open professional exchange of best practices on all IT-relevant current topics, increasingly vendor-neutral and across hardware, software and solutions,” said Dr. Weiß before the iX interview.

Even though the GSE has long since ceased to be the elitist mainframe club of yesteryear, many members still use mainframes. Therefore, the user association has a well-founded and dedicated opinion on this IT platform, as becomes clear in the interview with the GSE Region Manager Germany.
